Dublin based RocketJobs.ie is delighted to announce that it is partnering with Primary Position, the Limerick SEO specialists, for SEO services. Primary Position was selected after an extensive process which Primary Position emerged from as the front runner despite being the only non-Dublin based firm considered. “Primary Position’s innovative partnership approach was a refreshing departure from the norm which we felt really showed an interest in our business” said Derek Hardiman, RocketJobs founder.
Primary Position will be working to increase visitors to the site which is already growing in popularity by raising its profile and expanding the site’s visibility. “We are specialists in Search Engine Optimisation and this is our sole focus. We have used SEO to successfully grow our own company since 2003 and we’re looking forward to implementing our SEO strategy with RocketJobs.ie to further build upon the site’s traffic” said David Quaid, the lead consultant with Primary Position. “This will be a big project that will involve our consulting team for at least 12 months but we have no doubts that we will deliver on every one of RocketJobs’ expectations” he added.

Well, at last there’s some good news out there! RTE is reporting here that Taxback.com is creating 100 new jobs across marketing, sales and accounting in Dublin, Cork and Kilkenny over the next two years. Fair play to Emily Tully and others for getting the word out on Twitter earlier this morning.

As many of you probably know, RecruitIreland announced an offer for employers in Limerick on the heels of the Dell announcement. They will provide free job postings for any employer in Limerick. Credit where credit’s due - that’s a very nice gesture.
This got us thinking and the more we considered it the more we thought - why just Limerick? Granted, Limerick has been dealt a body blow and anything that helps get people back to work is commendable, but everyone is hurting at the moment.
So, with that in mind, we have decided that we will offer ANY employer in Ireland three free postings on RocketJobs.ie. All you have to do is go to the site and register as an employer if you’re not already signed up. Once that’s done we’ll apply three posting credits to your account that you can use immediately.
If this helps get one person back to work we feel it will have been worth it.

I’ve done a lot of hiring over the years while working for a variety of companies and that’s given me the pleasure (?) of seeing the good, the bad and the darn right ugly when it comes to CVs. If there’s one way of making sure your application ends up in the bin, send in a rubbish CV. There are plenty of good resources on the web advising on how best to structure your CV. For starters you can check out our CV tips on RocketJobs.ie, but recently I also came across CV Cafe. They’re definitely worth checking out.
One additional point - when applying online for a job a lot of people just hit the “Apply” button and attach their CV. That’s just not good enough. You need to stand out, so treat it like an old fashioned application. In the message or email box write a brief message outlining why you want the role and how your skills and experience match what is required. Sell yourself! If you don’t, the plethora of other candidates will. The first thing a recruiter or employer will see is the email message, so if it looks professional and well thought out they’re much more likely to open your CV.
Good job hunting!

Well, it was long expected but its finally happened. This story has just been posted on the RTE News site. Production is being moved to lower cost economies Our best wishes go out to all those affected. The good news is there will be life at Dell, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. I’m sure RocketJobs.ie and the other job sites will see an increase in traffic over the next while, but I’m certain that we will see spin out companies emerging in Limerick as part of the “enforced entrepreneurship” that comes with such a large lay-off. Just look at the positive results after the DEC closure and aren’t we so much richer for it?

The CIPD have just release the results of a survey that basically tells us what we all suspected. A survey of their members (HR managers) shows that they are expecting a reduction in staff numbers, but not necessaily through redundancies. Companies are looking at alternatives like sabbaticals, salary cuts and reduced working hours.

SR Technics announce 1,100 job losses
February 12th, 2009While it was expected, given the way meetings were called with management and staff in the last day or so, it has just been annouced that 1,100 jobs will be lost at their facility at Dublin airport. No details on the timeline for redundancies were provided, but union representatives said that they expect some staff could be redundant within a month.
